The Gubi C-Chair dining chair is one of Marcel Gascoin’s best-known pieces of furniture, and was designed in 1947. The chair represents not only the aesthetic and practical strength of Gascoin’s designs, but also the social awareness he showed in post-war France. C-Chair was originally created out of a need to fit the new sizes of homes being built after the Second World War, where Gascoin compensated for the lack of space by creating simple, functional furniture. C-Chair is thoughtfully designed with great attention to detail and has an elegant form, while also offering a robust construction rooted in a simple, minimalist and strong design language. C-Chair is characterised by voluminous, sturdy legs that contrast with an inviting seat in lighter materials, and its quality is expressed through modern lines, restraint and a high standard of woodwork. The base is black-stained oak with a matt lacquer.
