The Gubi Stemlite ceiling light was introduced in 1962 as the first lamp with a "total look", a groundbreaking new typology conceived by the American designer Bill Curry, replacing the traditional base-and-shade form with a single self-contained unit made up of interchangeable modules. His debut design, the much-imitated Stemlite, was named "the most influential lamp of the year" by Industrial Design Magazine in 1965 and was used on the set of the original Star Trek television series. It is finished in black chrome and frosted glass.
